Staffan Strand was born in Sweden and educated in France, Holland, Sweden and Germany where he gained his examination certificate as taxidermist. In 1968 he moved to Zimmermann's in Kenya. Staffan joined Botswana´s National Museum and Art Gallery in 1974.

In 1980 the Natural History Museum in Stockholm asked Staffan to join as Chief Taxidermist specializing in big mammals. During this period he still regularly returned to Africa as educator and safari guide. In 1998 Staffan moved and stayed for three years in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Through the years Staffan has had unique opportunities to study anatomy intimately and is now working as a full-time sculptor in his native Sweden. He has also undertaken further studies at the University College of Arts in Stockholm. Staffan Strand is also a member of Nordic Wildlife Art Society
